Beep-Beep, Yeah!: The Sounds and Songs of the Motor Car explored the sensory connection to the sound of a car. From the engine rumble to the rhythm of your favourite tune, visitors could discover the strong relationship between sounds and our driving experience. The music we choose to listen to in our vehicles influences the way we drive, and vehicle sounds have an impact too; songs we love can shorten a long drive, the roar of an engine can awaken emotions - why is this and how have cars been designed to encourage this reaction?
For the first time, in a brand-new exhibition space, we had the opportunity to explore more than we had before. Flowing from the mechanical sounds to the social, Beep-Beep, Yeah included a journey through the history of in-car entertainment.
The star car of the exhibition was a white 1965 Rolls-Royce Phantom V, once owned by John Lennon! This Rolls-Royce appeared in the Beatles film, Let It Be, and featured alongside some other awesome cars including a 2019 Wells Vertige Prototype.
Visitors could feel the roar of a BRM race car’s V16 engine, try tuning a 1970s radio and even sit inside the luxurious 2022 Bentley Bentayga and try out its incredible audio systems.
You could even leave recommendations and listen to a playlist of favourite driving tunes, as chosen by you!
The exhibition ran from July 2025 to June 2026.
