Access Day offers a whole host of exciting accessible activities like specially adapted crafts, as well as relaxed hours, and a quiet room. These are in addition to our existing initiatives such as SEND & sensory bags and Touch & Access Tours, which ensure that our spaces are accessible and inclusive at all times.
This is just one of the ways we aim to create the best Museum experience for those with additional needs, along with continued reviews, upgrades and changes to the Museum to make it as welcoming as possible, regardless of visitors' requirements.
This time, we're teaming up with Playground Games and SpecialEffect to bring additional experiences to Access Day.
All activities are free with general admission.
SpecialEffect is a UK charity that uses innovative technology to help people with physical disabilities access and enjoy video games. Working alongside the team at Playground Games, visitors will have the opportunity to discover some of the equipment, technology and adaptations that can make gaming more accessible.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to explore accessible gaming setups, meet members of SpecialEffect's team and learn more about how games and technology can be adapted to support different access needs.
Visitors will also have the chance to try EyeGaze technology for themselves and take on a fastest lap challenge, using only their eye movements to control the game and compete for a place on the leaderboard.
The Access Day forms part of the British Motor Museum and Playground Games' shared commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive experiences, helping ensure that as many people as possible can participate, play and enjoy gaming.
Come along and join the Learning Team on one of our specially adapted Touch and Access Tours. These sensory guided tours bring the collection to life, allowing visitors to get up close to a number of the cars in the Museum.
Sign up for a Touch and Access Tour at the Family Activity Station and join your tour from the designated meeting point by the Museum Pay Desk.
On Access Day, we will be enabling those who need a quieter environment to enjoy our wonderful car collection with 'Relaxed Hours'.
Audio-visuals and hand dryers will be switched off (paper towels will be provided), and the lighting will be lowered.
For anyone who needs a bit of time out, there will be a quiet room available throughout the day in the Museum’s Learning Hub.
Step into the Learning Hub and discover a fun craft activity on offer, as well as Museum objects to explore. There will also be giant LEGO® bricks to build and play, as well as costumes for dressing up.
Our SEND and Sensory bags are available to borrow during your visit to the Museum, providing a range of items to help make your visit to the Museum easier.

These are subject to availability so please visit the Family Activity Station to request one on your arrival.
We’re delighted to have installed a Changing Places toilet, thanks to grant funding provided by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities with support from Stratford on Avon District Council in association with Muscular Dystrophy UK.
This fantastic facility is designed to accommodate those with accessibility needs, with specialist equipment, such as a hoist and extra space for carers.
