Come and be dazzled this October half-term at the British Motor Museum as our mad scientists shine a light on headlamps and the science behind them. Join us for illuminating hands-on sessions as they reflect on the science of lights with our amazing Lucas Collection - one of the world’s largest collection of historic lamps. Don't forget our take home activity bags and black cat trail too!

Object handling with Professor Pickle or Doctor Pumpkin

Sat 23 to Mon 25 October and Fri 29 to Sun 31 October  - 11.30am/ 12.30pm/ 1.30pm

Join Professor Pickle or Doctor Pumpkin in the Museum as they share the stories and the science behind the fascinating lights and mirrors in the Lucas Collection. How they work, how they were made, what powered them. Our scientists will certainly enlighten you with these pop-up sessions!

Spotlight on Science Show

Tue 26 to Thu 28 October -11.30am/ 12.30pm/ 1.30pm

Back by popular demand. Ignite your scientific knowledge of lights and mirrors with our fantastic Spotlight on Science show. Join us for a 25 minute live spectacular full of cool interactive demonstrations and light inspired science. Attendance is on a first come first served basis and be ready for some fun!

Esports Discovery Days

Sat 23 to Thu 28 October - 10am to 4pm

The University of Warwick has transported their brand new, state-of-the-art Esports Centre to the Museum with a whopping 24 gaming stations.

Come and choose from 3 racing games to play (Trackmania, Rocket League and F1 2020). Can you top our Trackmania Time Trial leaderboard? There will be gaming prizes up for grabs!

Black Cat Trail - Every day

It wouldn’t be October half-term without our Black Cat Trail! Search around the Museum for the hidden black cats and, with a torch, discover the colour of each cat's eyes! Available every day, just pick up a trail sheet from our Welcome Gallery by the main entrance and remember to return for your sticker! Suitable for all the family.

Take Home Activity - Make Your Own Optical Illusion

Come and collect an activity bag and make your own Phenakistoscope (pronounced fee-na-kiss-toe-scope) - an early animation device. You can cut it out, colour it in, paint it or even add glitter. You won’t believe your eyes when you make this amazing optical illusion!

Please collect this from the Collections Centre before 4:30pm, there is one per child.

NOTE: All activities are included in Museum admission. All activities are suitable for 3+ years with adult supervision, unless otherwise specified.

Online Activities 

Our October online activities are all about car safety. So, even if you're not able to visit the Museum, you can still join in with the fun! Click here to take part!

Activity Bags

 

Don't forget to collect your activity bag from our Collections Centre when you visit.

The bag includes the instructions and materials to make your Phenakistoscope (pronounced fee-na-kiss-toe-scope) - an early animation device. 

Activity bags are available for children aged 3+ to 16 years and are subject to availability.

Please share your completed Phenakistoscopes with us using the 'SHARE' tab!

 

Science Shows

 

Pickle and Pumpkin are back for some science fun! Join us for a 25 minute live show full of cool interactive demonstrations and light inspired science. Shows are taking place in one of our large conference rooms to allow plenty of space for the audience.

The shows will run Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 October at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm. 

To avoid disappointment please sign up when you arrive at the Museum. Head up the escalators to the first floor gallery where the science show station will be clearly signed. The science shows have a limited capacity and are subject to availability.

Loud bangs, lots of smoke, variable lighting and flashing lights are guaranteed. Suitable for ages 3+.
