This Half-Term from 21 October to 5 November, the British Motor Museum invites families to forge their own path to the future. The world is changing quickly, especially the world of cars. This is the thinking that has driven the latest exhibition, “Transitions: The Impact of Innovation”, which explores ways that cars are developing. These changes are expressed through four key areas – Energy, Control, Materials and Impact, which have inspired the Half-Term activities.
Visitors can join the Fix It! Family Trail, which takes place every day, enabling families to explore the Museum on a hunt for parts to build a car. What parts will they choose? At each station, there will be parts from past, present and future cars, which can be mixed together to create a vehicle of dreams!
The Black Cat Trail takes place every day for two weeks only by popular demand.
Black cats have infiltrated the Museum, and need to be found! Children can embark on a spooky hunt around the Museum in search of these mischievous moggies. Using torches to note down the colours in their eyes, they can claim their reward once they have found them all.
The Transitions Family Tour takes place from 21 to 23 & 28 to 30 October at 11:30am & 1:30pm. Children can join the irrepressible Professor Pickle or the savvy Doctor Pumpkin on a fun and engaging tour stuffed with facts. The scientists will whisk children around the Museum to discover the collection through the lens of Energy, Control, Materials and Impact. Pay attention, as there will be questions for the audience!
Science Show: The Solution to Pollution! takes place from 24 to 27 October & 31 October to 3 November at 11am, noon, 1pm & 2pm. Cars are becoming more eco-friendly, with electric and hybrid engines becoming more common. Meanwhile, the Museum’s resident scientists have been busy preparing experiments that children are sure to love! Professor Pickle has his mind on the past, confident that the old ways of making cars are the best. Dr Pumpkin’s head is firmly in the future, and she’s got her own ideas for what cars should be like. Children will need to decide which is best in this 20-minute show, which will also explore the themes of Energy, Control, Materials and Impact.
Explore STEM with MOD Kineton will take place on 23 & 30 October, when the ambassadors from MOD Kineton will be offering visitors the chance to participate in STEM activities.
Make your own car of the future takes place every day, enabling children to create their dream car of the future. The parts shop is full of craft materials to build a model. What materials will children choose? What energy will the car use? How will it be controlled, and how will it impact their life and the environment?
Emma Rawlinson, Lifelong Learning Officer at the British Motor Museum, said: "Join us as we show our younger visitors a fun and fascinating glimpse into the future of motoring. There will be questions to answer and choices to be made. We’re really putting our visitors in the driver’s seat this Half-Term!"
The Museum has held its 2022 prices for 2023. Museum entry is just £40 for a family in advance or £44 on the day, £14.50 for adults in advance or £16 on the day, £12.50 for concessions in advance or £14 on the day, £9 for children (5-16 years) in advance or £10 on the day and under 5s are FREE. There is also the option to Gift Aid or donate your entry fee and get an Annual Pass in return, at no extra cost.
