J12 M40
British Motor Museum
This car is 'Minki 2', a Rover built prototype and aimed to improve the ergonomics, ride and power unit over the standard Mini, whilst retaining the feel and driving fun of the original car.
The car was stretched in both length and width by 50 mm, interior room was improved and a K-series, 1.4 litre engine was fitted. Modified Rover 100 suspension, front and rear brakes and gearchange, were used to improve ride and handling.
Inside the car, Rover 100 interior fittings were used and leg and shoulder room in the front were increased by 75 mm and 50 mm respectively. A modified Rover 100 steering column was also installed to give a better driving position.
