The 1905 40hp Thornycroft was built for the Isle of Man TT Race with two cars were entered for the 1905 TT Race; car no. 12 was entered by Tom Thornycroft and no. 47 was entered by G V Baxendale, but there were no wins for Thornycroft that year.

This car is H2499, chassis number 580, and was built for a customer called H.G.Pelissier. The car ran in several TT races, usually driven by Tom Thornycroft, although in the 1908 Tourist Trophy practice it was involved in a crash with another competitor. H2499 was repaired in late 1908 and now sports a pointed front radiator and a four seat touring body, and thence became Tom Thornycroft's personal transport.
