British Motor Museum offers to bring curatorial expertise into the conference programme

British Motor Museum | 29 September 2026

British Motor Museum Meetings & Events is giving organisers the opportunity to make members of its curatorial team part of their conference programme through a new range of tailored content sessions.

From a short welcome that establishes a strong sense of place to a specialist presentation or facilitated session, the content will be developed around the objectives and themes of each conference. Drawing on the Museum’s collection, archive and expertise, speakers can connect Britain’s automotive story with subjects including innovation, engineering, technology, design, manufacturing, leadership, mobility and social change.

Rather than offering a standard talk about the Museum, the team will work with organisers to identify stories, vehicles, personalities and moments from automotive history that can bring an event’s own subject matter to life.

A conference focused on transformation could explore how industries and organisations have responded to periods of rapid change. A technology audience could consider the relationship between human creativity, engineering and emerging tools. Leadership, sustainability, skills, inclusion and consumer behaviour can all be examined through the lens of people, products and decisions that have shaped automotive history.

Toby Batchelor, Head of Commerce at the British Motor Museum, said: “The Museum already gives events a strong sense of identity, but this allows organisers to take that relevance much further by bringing our people and expertise directly into the programme.

“The point is not to turn every event into an automotive conference. It is to understand what the organiser wants delegates to think about and then find the stories within our collection that can provide a different and engaging perspective.

“Whether it is a ten-minute welcome, a specialist breakout session or a more substantial contribution to the programme, the content can be shaped around the client. It helps connect the setting, the subject matter and the delegate experience in a way that feels purposeful rather than added on.”

Members of the curatorial team can draw upon the world’s largest collection of historic British cars, alongside an extensive archive containing documents, photographs, film, technical records and personal accounts. Where appropriate, sessions can also incorporate vehicles, objects, archive material or movement through the Museum itself.

Cat Boxall, Museum Curator, at the British Motor Museum, added: “The collection is about far more than cars. It tells stories about creativity, ambition, problem-solving, industrial change and the ways in which technology affects people’s everyday lives.

“Working with an organiser gives us the opportunity to select the stories that will resonate most strongly with their audience. We can use the past to provide context for the conversations organisations are having today, and for the ideas that will shape what happens next.”

The new programme option forms part of the venue’s wider “Enhance Your Event” offer, which enables organisers to incorporate Museum tours, archive access, vehicle displays, hosted experiences, team activities and tailored food and drink into their events.

Toby concluded: “Organisers increasingly want venues to contribute more than space and catering. By placing the knowledge and storytelling of our curatorial team at their disposal, we can help them create content that belongs in this venue and adds genuine value to the programme.”

The British Motor Museum Meetings & Events team will be at CHS Manchester this week, exhibiting on Stand F144. Organiser are encouraged to visit the stand, to meet the team and learn more about the curatorial experiences.
