May is all about colour! This month we have some more colourful activities for you to try together at home - we hope you enjoy them!

Our activities will give you the chance to become a designer and explore the science of colour before going on a colourful tour of the museum.

You can find all of our activities in the tabs below. It would be great if you could share a photo of your completed activities.

Either upload a picture via the ‘share’ tab or email us and we'll share it for you. Alternatively, post it to our Facebook page - don’t forget to use the hashtag #ExploringBMM.

Special Car Colours

There is no denying that the colour of your car can be a fashion statement. But imagine having your own colour made for you?

One only needs to look at the Royal Cars at the museum and see the Queen Mother's 'Royal Claret' and the Queen's 'Arden Green'. Colours that are so special you need to ask for their permission to use them!

It's not only the royal family who created car colours. Ron Clover, Managing Director of Clover Brown Engineering in London created a new colour for his brand new Jensen FF called Mango. Fellow Director, Harry Brown, also got a Jensen FF and picked a colour to match his tie - magenta!

If you could paint your car any colour what would it be and what name would you give it?

Skittles Experiment

Grab your lab coat and join resident mad scientist, Dr Pumpkin, in investigating the colourful science of sweeties! Use the SHARE tab to show us how your experiments turned out.

Design Your Own Car Badge

Look at these car badges from British motor companies. Not only do they include a brand name but they also have a specific brand colour. Check out the badges from the vehicles in our collection and a bit of the history about each company.

BadgesCan you design your very own car badge using materials you have at home? What do you think makes a good car badge? How shiny is it? Does it include the company name? Click on the image below to download the colouring in sheet. Make sure you show us the car badge you designed using the SHARE tab.
