In the world of cars, energy is an important topic. All over the world, car manufacturers are realising the need to consider alternative forms of energy when designing their new cars. Our current exhibition: "Transitions: The Impact of Innovation" discusses different forms of energy, from standard batteries to hydrogen fuel cells, and it’s this debate that inspires our February Half-Term Activities.
Visit the Museum for a fun and fascinating glimpse at the future of energy. Join the Museum’s resident scientists in the not-so-secret lab for the Project Energise science show, and discover a range of experiments that put alternative energies to the test! Next, it's time to join The Energy Family Tour, an exciting odyssey around the collection seeing different forms of energy among the cars in the Museum.
Once you’ve learnt the theory, it's time to get hands-on in the Learning Hub, building a car of the future! Armed with a variety of parts, and your imagination, you can design an exciting vehicle driven by one of a range of alternative energy sources. If you're still hungry for building, take on the Fix It! Family Trail, using parts from past, present and future to create a unique new car.
All these activities are included in the price of admission, for a great value day out! Click the button below to book.
A period of radical change is coming. The world of cars is moving away from the internal combustion engine and searching for alternative methods of propulsion. The greatest scientific minds in the world have been working to find a solution, including our very own resident brainiacs…
Professor Pickle and Doctor Pumpkin have been in the not-so-secret lab performing some mind-blowing experiments in the name of discovering alternative energy.
Follow along with their experiments, and enjoy the chance to get in on the action yourself! What will you discover?
No need to pre-book, just sign up at the Family Activity Station when you arrive.
Suitable for all the family.
Join us in the Learning Hub during your visit for a new craft activity that’s sure to fire your imagination! Step into our garage, and you’ll find everything you need to create a dream car of the future. Our parts shop is full of craft materials you can use to build your model. From there, the only limit is your imagination! When you're building your car, think about what energy you want it to use: gravitational, mechanical, potential or electromagnetic?
Remember Newton's 1st Law - energy cannot be created or destroyed, but transferred from one form to another.
Suitable for 5+ with adult supervision.
Join the energetic team of scientists for an interactive journey through the Museum collections. Along the way, you’ll learn how different cars are powered, and get an insight into how cars could be powered in the future. Think about the different energy sources as you go - what do you think the future should look like?
Past, present and future collide in this fantastic family tour! Pick up a Fix It Trail at the Family Activity Station, and explore the Museum on a hunt for parts to build a car. But, what parts will you choose? At each station around the Museum, you’ll be able to find parts from past, present and future cars. You can mix together parts from all three eras to create the vehicle of your dreams!
When your creation is ready, it's full speed back to the Family Activity Station for that all important reward sticker!
NOTE: All activities are included in Museum admission. There is no need to pre-book; just drop by the Family Activity station to find out what is going on when! Activities are suitable for 5+ years with adult supervision unless otherwise specified.
