This Christmas, we have some more activities for you to enjoy together at home!

Despite these challenging times, we’ve been working hard to put together some activities for everyone to do at home. We really hope you’ll join in.

Just like there would be if you visited the Museum, we've put together a group of activities to keep you busy. Learn all about the Princess Mary Box, create your own and fill it with your keepsakes.

Find all of our activities in the tabs below. It would be great if you could share a photo of your completed activities. Either upload a picture via the 'Share' tab or email us and we'll share it for you. Alternatively, you can post on our Facebook page with the hashtag #ExploringBMM.

Princess Mary Box

During World War One the British motor industry contributed to the war effort by ceasing production and using their factories to produce artillery and other materials crucial to the war effort. The motor industry also helped with the use of civilian lorries and buses, with the Associated Equipment Company (AEC) producing over 10,000 lorries during World War One.

The British Motor industry was not the only one to contribute to the war effort, so did the Royal family. In 1914, Princess Mary wanted to make sure that those on the front line would have a present for Christmas. This led to the creation of the Princess Mary Boxes.

Why not spend some time researching the history of the box? Can you find out the estimated number of boxes made? What do you think was sent to the soldiers in the boxes? Did the Royal family send out any other gifts to those contributing to the war effort? Use the 'Share' tab to tell us what you found out!
